Terms and market rules

BasilMarket is a free, fan-made community site for MapleStory Classic. Using it means agreeing to the rules below. They are short on purpose: the point is that everyone can see exactly how the market, the trader ratings and the price history work, and what gets an account removed.

1. Accounts

  • One person, one account. Alternate accounts used to trade with yourself, rate yourself, bid on your own auctions or get around a block are not allowed.
  • You are responsible for what happens on your account. Keep your password to yourself and turn on 2FA or link Discord to verify.
  • Staff can block an account that breaks these rules. A blocked account's ratings and price points stop counting.

2. The market

  • Listings are for in-game items and mesos on MapleStory Classic only. No real-money trading, no account sales, no listings for other games or servers.
  • A listing must be something you actually have (sell, auction) or actually intend to buy (want to buy). Posting listings you have no intention of completing is manipulation (see section 5).
  • Bids and offers are commitments. If you win an auction or are picked as the buyer, you are expected to complete the trade in game.
  • Auctions soft close: a bid in the last 2 minutes pushes the end back 2 minutes, so an auction only ends once bidding stops.
  • Backed-out trades can be reported by either side. The other party has 48 hours to contest; otherwise it becomes a strike. One strike is a warning, two within 60 days block you from bidding, listing and offering for 7 days, and 3 go to staff review.

3. Trader ratings

  • Only the buyer and seller of a completed trade can rate each other, once per trade, 1 to 5 stars.
  • Your score counts one vote per trader. If the same person rates you several times across several trades, only their latest rating goes into your average. Every rating still shows in your feedback list, but it can't stack your score.
  • Ratings left by accounts that staff have blocked don't count toward anyone's score.
  • You can reply to a rating left for you. Replies are shown once a moderator approves them.
  • The Trusted Trader badge needs 10 or more ratings averaging 4.5+ from at least 5 different traders, and no confirmed trade disputes.

4. Price history

Item charts and recommended prices are built from completed trades on this site plus Free Market shop sightings. A completed trade only becomes a price point when all of these hold:

  • There is a buyer, and the buyer and seller are different accounts.
  • Neither account is blocked.
  • The same two accounts have not already logged a price for that item in the last 7 days. Trade with the same person as often as you like; only the first trade per item per week moves the chart.
  • Once an item has 3 or more sales in the last 30 days, a price more than 5x above or below their median is not recorded.
  • If a trade is reported and the report is upheld, its price point is removed.

A trade that fails these checks still closes normally and the listing still shows its own sold price. It just doesn't change the item's chart or recommended price. Free Market sightings are handled separately: the same member reporting the same shop twice within a day counts once, and prices far outside the pack are dropped before the summary is calculated.

5. No manipulation

Don't try to game the ratings, the price history or the auctions. Specifically, the following are against the rules whether they are done with your own account, an alternate account, or by arrangement with someone else:

  • Wash trading: marking sales, placing bids or making offers for trades that don't really happen, or that happen only to create a price point or a rating.
  • Shill bidding: bidding on your own auction, or having someone bid for you, to raise the price.
  • Rating trading or review bombing: swapping ratings, rating yourself through another account, or organising a group to rate someone up or down.
  • Price pumping: coordinated listings, sales or Free Market screenshots meant to push an item's chart away from what it really trades for, including doctored screenshots.
  • Dodging the checks above, for example by alternating accounts to get around the one-vote-per-trader rule or the 7-day pair cooldown.

Staff may remove affected ratings and price points, remove listings, and block accounts involved, and may do so without a report from another member. If you think something on the site is being manipulated, use the Trade Disputes board or contact staff on Discord.

6. Content and conduct

  • Be decent to people in the forum, in messages and in Discord. Harassment, slurs, doxxing and scams get accounts blocked.
  • Only upload screenshots, drops, meso reports and prices you believe are accurate. Community data is only useful if it's honest.
  • You keep ownership of what you post, and you give BasilMarket permission to show it on the site, in the app and in Discord.

7. The usual

  • BasilMarket is provided as is, with no guarantee it will always be up or that any price or stat is correct. Trades are arranged between players in game; the site doesn't hold items or mesos and can't reverse a trade.
  • BasilMarket.net is an independent, fan-made project. It is not affiliated with Nexon, Wizet, MapleStory or the original BasilMarket.
  • These terms may change. Changes to the market, rating or price-history rules are announced on Discord and this page is updated at the same time.
